The brief
Make the video for Something in the Heavens with Google’s own filmmaking tools. The song tells a story of love, loss and everything in between.
What we made
A music video that moves between reality and imagination.
How it was made
Nine creative technologists worked in a 24-hour cycle across time zones, directed by Justin Hackney. They built the film in Google Flow, kept one or two sequences from every hundred they generated, then edited and graded it by hand.
The result
The video launched on YouTube Music in September 2025. Google and YouTube backed it with outdoor and social campaigns, and a behind-the-scenes film followed on Google’s YouTube channel. In 2026 it was named a Webby Honoree for Best Use of AI.
“Flow allowed us to explore those ideas without constraint. There was no sense of limitation, just a fluid back and forth between instinct and image.”
Justin Hackney, co-founder and chief creative officer, Wonder Studios
